When setting up the home aquarium adding a portion of floating plants during the initial setup phase provides a beautiful finishing touch, but also helps to reduce the chance of nuisance algae taking hold. Some are available year-round, while others are only available during pond season. Certain species will even reveal brilliant coloration under intense sun exposure, or high-quality aquarium lighting. A prime example of this is the highly popular Phyllanthus fluitans.

Floating plants can be incorporated as a beautiful finishing touch to any layout, or freely added and removed to help combat algae.
