Pectinia is a large polyp stony coral that resembles an art piece from the mind of Salvador Dali. The polyps are pulled and stretched into random directions. The large skeletal spikes jet out in awkward angles, lacking the patterned polyps in other coral species.
They come in various rainbow colored combinations composed of greens, pinks, and blue. The most recognizable strain of pectina is the space invader. The fluorescent yellow eyes contrast against the surrounding green background.
There is a beast in this coral beauty. Be cautious to keep your pectinia away from other corals. Sweeper tentacles easily annihilate its closest neighbors.
Provide low to moderate flow for your pectinia. Compressed and withdrawn tissue is a sure sign of too much flow.
Fairly hardy, the pectinia enjoys moderate lighting with par level between 100 to 175 par. Be careful not to place these corals any higher, bleaching can expose the branch tips, allowing space for nuisance algae.
Additional feedings are not required, but your pectina will happily accept most meaty reef foods. You can watch the individual mouths consume a great deal of coral foods such as benepets and Fauna Marin LPS Pellets.
