Momma Seal Gets a Fish Cake For Mother's Day #shorts

A mother seal gets a special fish cake for mother's day. This seal is named Qilak and is mom to our other seal, Saya, who was born in 2013.

In the wild, harbor seals give birth to one pup during the spring. At birth, the seal pups usually weigh around 24 pounds, but they gain weight rapidly during pupping season. This is due to the extreme richness of seal milk. The milk of a harbor seal is over 40% fat which is about 4 times fattier than ice cream! Harbor sups will stay with their mothers for 4 to 6 weeks before they are weaned and able to forage on their own.
