Baby Walrus Then and Now #shorts

Before and after videos of a baby walrus. A lot of people have expressed their shock at the size of a baby walrus in one of my recent short videos. The walrus was born at the Aquarium Du Quebec and is named Balzak after the famous French author, Honoré de Balzac. He was around 3 years old in that video. He is now approaching his seventh birthday and currently weighs a little over 2,000 lbs. Adult walruses are typically considered fully grown around 14 or 15 years old and can weigh around 5,000 lbs! So Balzak will likely get to be at least twice as big as he is now.

Balzak was born at the Aquarium du Quebec back in 2016 and I had the privilege of working with this handsome walrus for several years. During that time, Balzak participated in several important research projects into the metabolism of walruses and this information was used to enact laws and policies aimed at protecting his cousins in the wild.

Recently, Balzak and his sister Lakina have moved to Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium where I now have the opportunity to work with him again after several years. He looks great and I can't wait to share more of him and his sister Lakina in the near future!
