Red kite dad gently tucks eggs in to a nest decorated with rubbish ????

It is this male red kite's turn to keep the eggs warm. Watch him wait for his partner to leave before gently tucking the eggs underneath him to keep them warm. But rather than being the safe haven it should be, this nest is lined with rubbish!

RED KITE NESTS
Red kites have a habit of weaving odd things into their nests, apparently just for the look of it. I've seen socks, bits of cardboard, and even Covid masks go into this nest. What we think of as rubbish, they proudly put up as decorations.

But sadly so much of our waste contains plastic which means these birds are in danger. Plastic holds water which means the nest could be too damp for the chicks, and of course there is the danger of entanglement with rope or cord.
