The Travancore Flying Squirrel: A Small But Mighty Glider

The flying squirrel is an extraordinary nocturnal creature with remarkable adaptations. Unlike its tree-dwelling namesake, it doesn't truly fly but glides gracefully through the air. Specialized skin flaps, called patagia, extend between its front and back legs, enabling it to glide for up to 150 feet.

These agile mammals are excellent climbers and communicate through high-pitched chirps. Their large eyes provide excellent night vision, allowing them to navigate in the darkness. The flying squirrel's unique ability to glide effortlessly through the forest canopy makes it a fascinating and elusive member of the animal kingdom.
