In this episode I show my first attempt at growing the beginner friendly SPS corals Bird's Nest (Seriatopora) and Forest Fire Digi (Montipora Digitata). Spoiler alert, one of them did not make it haha. But I learnt a lot on keep the water parameters stable and will do better for my next SPS attempt!
00:00 Neighbour's SPS coral dominant reef tank
00:46 Sticking the SPS coral sticks
01:25 Equipment in the tank
01:40 Timelapse of coral health
02:00 Water testing
02:45 Coral death and recovery
03:08 New corals
First thing I learnt was that my 2 week waterchange schedule for my 4 month old tank is probably not sufficient to keep the water quality up for SPS corals. I also did not change my carbon for some time, and the alkalinity and calcium levels were below recommended for SPS growth. Any or all of these factors could have resulted in the coral's death, and I plan to address them one by one.
There are lots of colours available for the Montipora Digitata and I hope to fill up my next aquarium with all their colour varieties.
