Most reefers obsess over hitting “perfect” nitrate and phosphate numbers, but what actually matters is the balance between them. A reef with 0.10 phosphate and healthy nitrate is far more stable than a tank sitting at zeros. Zero nutrients aren’t ideal — they starve corals and destabilize the system.

Corals thrive when nitrogen and phosphorus move together, keeping bacteria active and preventing nutrient swings. If you want better color and growth, focus on balance, not the scoreboard.
