Ostriches are fascinating birds known for their impressive speed and size. They are the world's largest and heaviest birds, standing up to 9 feet tall and weighing up to 320 pounds. Ostriches have only two toes on each foot, unlike most birds which have three or four. They lay the largest eggs of any living bird, with each egg weighing about 3 pounds. Their powerful legs are not just for running; they also use them for defense, with a kick that can be lethal to predators. Ostriches are social animals, often living in groups of up to 50 birds.
