Here are the steps I take to keep my dwarf shrimp safe during a water change:

Step 1: I remove about 10% to 20% of the water using a siphon that won’t suck up any baby shrimp. If you have a larger siphon, you can cover the intake tube with a filter sponge or fine netting to ensure that you only siphon out the water and any small debris.

Step 2: I siphon the water into a white bucket because, in case any baby shrimp accidentally get sucked up, it will be easier to spot and place them back into my tank.

Step 3: I fill my tank from a reservoir that contains dechlorinated aged water. This means I initially filled my reservoir using tap water and let it sit for 24 hours before using it to refill my tank. This allows the pH to stabilize and the water to reach the same temperature as my tank since this reservoir is heated as well.

Step 4: I use narrow tubing connected to a water pump placed in the reservoir. Although it takes a while to fill my tank, I prefer this setup to ensure my shrimp slowly adjust to the new water and my aquascape remains undisturbed.
