European Adder - Surprisingly Complex Camouflage! (and some stuff on venom too)

European Adders (also known as the common adder) are gorgeous snakes with a strikingly distinctive zig-zag stripe on its back. Does the European Adder's stripe serve a special purpose? Turns out it does. It is an integral part of their camouflage and a really cool optical illusion.
