▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
Pangolins, which are sometimes referred to as scaly anteaters, are a group of mammals belonging to the order Pholidota. The only family in this order, Manidae, is composed of three genera - Manis, Phataginus, and Smutsia. While Manis has four species found in Asia, Phataginus and Smutsia each have two species found in sub-Saharan Africa. These animals range in size from 30 to 100 cm (12 to 39 in) and a number of extinct species of pangolins are also known.
There are eight species of pangolins in total and are divided equally between the continents of Africa and Asia. They are the Chinese pangolin, the Cape pangolin, the Malayan pangolin, the Philippine pangolin, the White-bellied pangolin, the Indian pangolin, the Black-bellied pangolin and the Giant ground pangolin.
Pangolins have a unique feature of large keratin scales, similar in composition to fingernails and toenails, covering their skin. The scales cover their entire body, except for their underbelly, face, and parts of their limbs. When threatened, pangolins will curl up into a tight ball, using their scales as a form of armor.
They live in hollow trees or burrows, depending on the species, and are active during the night. Their diet primarily consists of ants and termites which they catch using their long tongues. Pangolins can be found in a variety of habitats, including forests, grasslands, and deserts. They are primarily nocturnal and solitary animals. Pangolins are typically solitary animals and only come together to mate and produce one to three offspring, which they raise for around two years.
Here is some detailed information about these animals, as well as some interesting facts:

Pangolins have long, prehensile tails that they use for balance and climbing.
Some species of pangolins can emit a foul-smelling odor when threatened.
Pangolins have poor eyesight but excellent hearing and sense of smell.
The scales of a pangolin are not as strong as those of an armadillo and cannot protect them from large predators.
Baby pangolins are called pangopups and are born with soft scales that harden within a few days.
Pangolins are excellent diggers and can create burrows up to 3.5 meters long.
Pangolins have a specialized saliva that contains anticoagulants, which helps them to prevent blood from clotting while they consume their insect prey.
The name "pangolin" comes from the Malay word "pengguling," which means "something that rolls up."
In traditional Chinese medicine, pangolin scales are believed to have healing properties and are used to treat a variety of ailments.
Pangolins are able to swim and can hold their breath for up to six minutes underwater.
Some species of pangolins are arboreal, meaning they spend a significant amount of time in trees.
Pangolins have very few natural predators due to their tough scales, but they can be preyed upon by large cats, hyenas, and humans.
Pangolins have a low body temperature compared to other mammals, which allows them to conserve energy.
Pangolins are slow-moving animals and rely on their scales for protection, so their best defense mechanism is to curl up into a ball and wait for a threat to pass.

Conservation status: All eight species of pangolins are listed as either vulnerable or critically endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). The primary threats to pangolins are habitat loss and hunting for their meat and scales, which are believed to have medicinal properties.
Although 70% of the world’s population have never even heard of the pangolin, Sadly, they are the most poached and illegally trafficked mammal in the whole world.
