Adirondack Amphibians: During their short breeding season, Wood Frogs can be recognized by their distinctive advertisement calls: a series of short, hoarse calls often described as a soft, ducklike cackling. Wood Frogs are said to be the earliest of our frogs to begin calling in the spring, generally when air temperatures reach about 50 degrees Fahrenheit.
