Rare Tortoise Hatches, First Ever!

The first ever, known, USA hatching of a true Bell's hingeback tortoise (Kinixys belliana) has finally happened. Meet "Jabari", which means "brave one" in Swahili. Jabari the baby tortoise hatched here at Garden State Tortoise on June 26th, 2022 and is the first ever of his/her kind to be reproduced in the USA. In this video we discuss why this has happened, the history of the species, and how we cared for a group of adult Bell's hingeback tortoises, which led to this little miracle of life.
