Have you ever heard of a siren? No, not the mythical mermaid adjacent cryptid, the salamander! These cute little critters inhabit a variety of freshwater ecosystems throughout the southeastern United States, and although they can be quite common in many areas, their lifestyle can make them very difficult to find! These animals spend the majority of their time in burrows or shallow water searching for food, and although they're equipped with fleshy gills, they also need to gulp air from the surface!
