No lids on saltwater tank? Saltwater tank update May 2022. lids on a saltwater aquarium help trap heat in your tank and slows water evaporation in your saltwater aquarium. lids on your saltwater tank also prevent saltwater fish from jumping out. Although lids have benefits on a saltwater tank, I prefer the cleaner natural look and no lids on a saltwater aquarium also means less cleaning, less salt creep and gases are allowed to flow out of the tank.

I'm also using the fluval fx6 canister filter and it's a monster for filtration. I have both overflows and return pumps connected to my original eshopps sump for filtration and protein skimmer.
