In this video I will be focusing on the beautiful country of Colombia. Colombia is one of the most biodiverse countries in the world and has more bird species than north America and Europe combined. As Colombia is such a biodiverse country it is very important that we protect it from invasive species. In today I will be going through just a few invasive species in Colombia as I will be going through 5 problem invasive species in Colombia.

For our first invasive species we will be heading to the freshwaters of south east Asia as we have the snakeskin gourami. This invasive fish was farmed in Colombia for the aquarium trade and for food but some escaped and now the snakeskin gourami is an invasive fish.
For our next invasive species we will be heading over to Africa as we have the hippopotamus. The hippopotamus was imported by Pablo Escobar on one of his properties after his death these hippos ran wild and multiplied and are now an invasive species.
For our next invasive species we will be heading over to east Africa as we have the giant African land snail. This giant snail was imported as a food item but many of these snails were released and have had a huge impact on the ecosystem. These giant snails feed on over 500 types of plants and have the ability to transform wetland ecosystems.
For our next invasive species we will be heading up to north America as awe have the American bullfrog. The American bullfrog was imported into Colombia to be farmed but many of these bullfrogs escaped and they now feed on the native wildlife.
For our final invasive species we will be heading over to Asia as we have the Asian tiger mosquito. The Asian tiger mosquito made its way to south America though shipping containers from china. These mosquitos can have a huge affect on people by spreading diseases and viruses.
