How to Plant Pearlweed in your fish aquarium. Start by removing the bottom leaves from the stem because it will be planted into the substrate. Removing those leaves ensures they don’t rot in the substrate. Now grab the plant and the bottom stem where you removed the leaves with your tweezers. Pearlweed is a tiny fragile plant so be careful you don’t destroy that plant.

Tank cycling question for an expert: I am getting a 29 gallon for Christmas and plan to start cycling before I add fish. But this is my tap water. The ammonia is off the charts! Should I use bottled water instead? (I tested the bottled water and it still tests a light green for some ammonia.)

API tests are known for being inaccurate at lower levels. It's common for them to show a little green even if there is no ammonia present.

But to answer your question, yes you need to look into a different water source. The kind of water you use will determine what else, if anything, you need to do to the water.

But is there a better Ammonia test for low level? I've been doubting my test cuz even after a 70% change the ammonia reads the same.

Sailfert are the tests I use. Sera and JBL make good tests as well. But honestly if it's showing .25 then it's not really anything to worry about unless you are keeping something that takes a super high ph and really warm temps.

Prime does lower it but it’s so high it takes way more Prime then the bottle says to lower the ammonia. I have been using Fritz ACCR and that seems to work a little better but again. It takes a good amount to actually get it down to zero.

You can safely dose Prime at 5x the dose. I wouldn’t be comfortable using water with more than 1ppm of ammonia to start with. Remember that the higher the ammonia, the higher your nitrates will be.

Right it seems like it would be setting up to fail. I guess I have to go with bottled water but my husband is going to give me some serious side eye going in to buy 30 gallons of bottled water.

Planting Pearlweed Aquarium plants is fairly simple.

My filter top keeps opening and water keeps overflowing causing it to leak through my ceiling. Why is this happening and how can I get it to stop?? I have two filters for my tank and just one keeps doing this.

What kind of filter? Mine did then when the sponge got too clogged up with gunk but it was an HOb so it didn’t overflow. Agree with the comments here. Squeeze the sponge in old aquarium water, you'll see how much gunk is on there, and the water level should be back down in the filter after squeezing.

My old aqua clear filter always did that!! I had to use strong tape but still leaked. I now am obsessed either the Tidal 110 hobs!! I have 2 on my Oscar tank plus a canister. It’s just a huge bucket so you can fill it up!! It also has a button that pops up when it’s getting gunked up. It has a surface skimmer too!! It comes in many sizes too.

So i done something i got to ra iknbow sharks all was well then the bigger 1 started to chase the lil 1the bigger 1 is in an 85l tank and the lil 1 i had to seperate and the only other tank i have is a 25l i know its way to small atm hes just a juvenile so its ok.

My problem is that i know i needa bigger tank for him but my partner only wants 1 tank in the house. What do i do ? Where do i go from here? He dosnt like me spending to much on the fish tanks as i was only ment to have the 25l but i bought guppies n the guppies had babies so i had to get a bigger tank. But it was a old glass square no stand nothing. Now i have the big 85l that both my sharks were in but they dont seem to be gettin along wen they r together.

Please any and all surgestions welcome i really wanna try to keep both my sharks n cant figure out a way to let my buby let me get a 4ft to 6ft tank?

Can I see a pic of your tank? Probably need to add more caves/plants etc to give them a lot more room to hide and be able to mark there own territory...I have 2 Glo sharks in my 55gal but they have a ton of stuff to hide under/in...and lots of plants lol but they are super chill and do there own thing.

Haha im bad for buying stuff i dont need for the tank or my dirt bike n telling him after the fact but a couple hundred on a new tank and stand he would go bonkers if i didnt tell him haha.

But thats a really good point it is my hobby now so money will b spent on it haha he keeps saying how he neva wanted a fish tank in the first place but he always lets me get wat i want evan if i have to listen to an ear full.

I have 3 (fish)+1 (turtle) small tanks my wife complain my fish have no color and boring. So I went ahead got 7 more tanks in 4 months 2x65g, 1x 75g, 2x20g, 2x10g and added all African cichlids. She point a fish today and asked is this new? no I had it for 3 month now.
