Did you know that only 2 out of 10 cheetah cubswill make it to adulthood?
Yes, life is tougher than you think forthe fastest land mammal on earth.

You see, cheetahs almost went extinct after the ice age some 10,000 years ago.
It is theorized that at one point in time there were only 7 individuals left on earth.

So, for the species to survive they have no choice but to go full Targaryen mode.

Inbreeding resulted in a thin genetic pool.
Deformities and diseases came with it.
Oh, and also the low sperm count for males.

Adult cheetahs are rarely killed by predators because of their speed.

But it’s different from the young ones which only rely on their mohawk camouflage.

Most cubs die from lion attacks.
Hyenas and leopards are also known to kill cheetah cubs.

In Serengeti National park,
approximately 250 cheetahs live in an ecosystem
with 2,800 lions and 9,000 spotted hyenas.

Imagine being a young cheetah in that environment.
Quite nerve-wracking I must say.
