Mountain corals can grow up to 4 m across. Calyces tiny; forms microatolls on reef flats or domes 5 to 7 m high in deeper water; pale green to lavender or brown.
Porites lutea is native to the tropical Indo-Pacific region. Its range extends from the Red Sea, Madagascar and the east coast of Africa to Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Japan and northern and eastern Australia.
