Surgeonfish are pretty cool-looking fish, often found swimming around coral reefs. They have a sleek, oval body and are usually brightly colored with shades of blue, yellow, or even purple. What makes them stand out is the sharp, scalpel-like spines on each side of their tails—kind of like a built-in defense mechanism against predators. These fish are herbivores, munching on algae that grows on rocks and coral. They’re pretty active and love to swim around in schools, especially in the warmer waters of the Indo-Pacific region.
