Forest Birds Make Way For Mourning Doves At Cornell Feeders – Dec. 12, 2022

European Starlings, Tufted Titmice, Blue Jays, and woodpeckers all snack on seeds at the feeders before a flock of Mourning Doves take over the platform. When they aren't at the feeder, look for Mourning Doves scattered on the open ground in grasslands, agricultural fields, backyards, and roadsides, where they peck and push aside ground litter in search of a meal.

This FeederWatch cam is located in the Treman Bird Feeding Garden at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology in Ithaca, New York. Perched on the edge of both Sapsucker Woods and its 10-acre pond, these feeders attract both forest species like chickadees and woodpeckers as well as some species that prefer open environments near water like Red-winged Blackbirds.

The Wild Birds Unlimited store at Sapsucker Woods has been a part of the visitor experience in the Cornell Lab’s Visitor Center ever since the new building opened in 2003.
