These algae can grow attaching to rocks, substrate, driftwood, etc. Algae can even grow on plants and glass surfaces of the aquarium so maintenance is little difficult. Most fishes do not eat algae, but in this video, we can see a male platy fish feeding on algae nonstop. Platies can survive longer without food in heavily planted tanks or tanks with lots of algae like this.
