In this Part 5a of an eight part series looking at the colour genetics of budgerigars it is time to look at how the chromosome that locus of the gene is located can impact on predicting the variety outcome of a pairing. It starts by considering how the sex chromosomes in birds differ from those of mammals and then goes to explore the impact od this by considering those varieties located on the sex chromosome. It explains why the hen can not be split for any of these “sex linked” varieties unlike the cock bird.
