Last year our crocodile newts had babies! Crocodile newts are native to the Yunnan province in southwestern China where they are found in mountainous areas along rivers. Over 100 aquatic newt larvae hatched and metamorphed into terrestrial newts. While most went on to another Canadian facility, helping to maintain the genetic diversity of this Vulnerable species, a small number stayed here in Toronto where they are growing into adult newts behind the scenes.
