Buff-necked Ibis. Scientific name: Theristicus caudatus, Brazilian name: Curicaca. Class: Birds, Order: Pelecaniformes, Family: Threskiornithidae. Food: Arthropods (centipedes, spiders), invertebrates (adult insects and larvae), prey on small lizards, mice, snails, amphibians and small snakes, and even smaller birds. Geographical Distribution: It occurs in a large part of Brazil, rare or non-existent in some States of the Regions: North and Northeast of the Country. It also occurs in Paraguay, Argentina, Uruguay and Bolivia. NOTE: (This is a species adapted to where there is open vegetation, pastures, ponds, fields, marshy regions or periodically flooded. Its long, curved beak is adapted for extracting beetle larvae and other insects from soft, moist soil.)
