Did you know that the archerfish has the remarkable ability to shoot down prey with a stream of water? These fish are found in freshwater and brackish environments in Asia and Australia and can shoot water up to two meters (six feet) to knock insects off of overhanging branches or leaves. The archerfish is able to achieve this by forming a groove in its mouth and then quickly closing its gill covers to force water out of its mouth in a concentrated stream. The archerfish is also known for its intelligence and has been shown to be able to recognize individual human faces. Subscribe for more animal facts!
