Black bear numbers are on the rise thanks to dedicated wildlife rehabilitators like Ben Kilham and Ethan Kilham, who run the Kilham Bear Center in New Hampshire.
Since 1993, the center has taken in orphaned black bear cubs who would otherwise not survive in the wild. The Kilham Bear Center works with the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department to rescue and rehabilitate black bear cubs with the goal of returning them to the wild. Equipped with food, natural and man-made dens, and acres of New Hampshire wilderness, the center offers a safe place for the cubs to learn essential skills like foraging and climbing with minimal human contact. Learn more about these incredible carnivores and what it’s like to be a black bear caretaker, this weekend on a new episode of Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom Protecting the Wild.
