RED SEA NOPOX and CYANOBACTERIA

RED SEA NOPOX and CYANOBACTERIA after use. My tank was looking great until a few days ago when I had a massive cyanobacteria outbreak, along with green algae in the 125 gallon saltwater tank. The only thing I did was start dosing RED SEA nopox at 15-20 ml a day. This dosage is WAY TOO MUCH! After reading saltwater tank forums online all last night, I found most reefers have luck with RED SEA NOPOX with a dose of no more than 1ml per 25 gallons of saltwater. That means for me, I should dose more more than 4-5 ml per day or every other day of RED SEA NOPOX. I have also read where people using RED SEA NOPOX have had an outbreak of cyanobacteria and even diatoms because they killed off their nitrates with NOPOX. I've read your nitrates should always be higher than your phosphates so they outcompete the phosphates. The best thing to do is not overfeed your tank with fish food, do weekly water changes and use a protein skimmer to keep nitrates down. This will also help with phosphate reduction. Not sure why NOPOX didn't help to lower phosphates...instead, NOPOX was feeding phosphates and killing the nitrates. saltwater aquarium care and maintenance videos by rotter tube reef.
