The most bizarre looking mammal of Australia and New Guinea.

Echidnas, also known as spiny anteaters, are small, egg-laying mammals native to Australia and New Guinea. They are one of only two species of monotremes, a group of mammals that lay eggs instead of giving birth to live young (the other being the platypus). Echidnas are covered in spines and have long snouts that they use to sniff out their prey, which consists mainly of ants and termites. They are known for their ability to dig, and they often build burrows or dig in the ground to find food or escape predators. Echidnas are also known for their unusual reproductive process, in which the female lays a single egg that is kept in her pouch until it hatches, and then the young, called a puggle, is raised on milk produced by special glands on the mother's skin.
