Tigers and gaurs do not live in the same habitat. Tigers are mainly found in forests and areas of dense vegetation in Asia, such as India, Russia, China and Southeast Asia. They prefer environments with dense cover and proximity to water. Gaurs, or Asian buffalo, inhabit tropical and subtropical forest areas in India, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia.
These animals live in dense forests and grasslands in South Asia. Although they both inhabit areas of Asia, their distributions don't exactly overlap. The tiger's habitat may overlap with the gaur's habitat in some regions of India and perhaps in other areas of South Asia. For this reason, some encounters between the two species have already been recorded. Even though it's not a very common occurrence, tigers are opportunistic predators and have the ability to attack and kill large prey, including gaurs.
