The planet Artemis is home to many creatures unlike anything found on Earth. Among the strangest is the Pied Swampbadger (Toxilara bicolor), a primitive mammal distantly reminiscent of the platypus — yet completely unique to this world.
Roughly the size of a large marten, the Pied Swampbadger has a broad beak like a shoveler duck and a body covered with black, brown, and white feathers. It lives in swamps and seasonal wetlands along the river Erebus and its tributaries, in the deserts of Regnum Syriæ and Terra Aonia, where water is scarce but life has found remarkable ways to adapt.
This footage shows a Pied Swampbadger walking through a dry riverbed under the desert sun — a rare glimpse of one of Artemis’ most unusual and fascinating mammals.
