Since 2008, it has been classified as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.
African civet is largely nocturnal, sleeping in dense vegetation during the day and waking up around sunset. It's a solitary mammal with a distinctive color pattern: black and white blotches cover its coarse pelage, and rings on the tail form a deceptive pattern.
