Introducing the Aqua-cultured Sprung Elegance Coral from Biota Aquariums!

This video is a special one, not just because it features another exciting aquacultured release from the reputable Biota Group, but because it carries a story that connects passion, patience, and legacy within the reefing community.

Many years ago, when Julian Sprung authored The Reef Aquarium: Volume 1, he included a photograph of a stunning Elegance Coral he encountered while diving in the waters of Palau. That coral left a lasting impression on him. Over the years, whenever Julian met with Manu, the COO of Biota Group, he would ask him to keep an eye out for that exact coral, a search that became somewhat of a personal quest.

After years of persistence (many no s from Julian) and exploration, Manu finally found it, the same type of Elegance Coral that had captivated Julian decades ago. During his recent visit to Biota’s Fort Lauderdale facility, Manu decided to surprise Julian by personally hand deliver the coral to him. The moment was genuine and emotional. You can see the joy and disbelief in Julian’s expression and hear it in his voice. It’s a beautiful reminder that even someone often regarded as the “Godfather of the Reefing Hobby” still feels the same wonder and excitement that drives every aquarist.

Biota has fittingly named this coral “The Sprung Elegance Coral” in honor of Julian and his lifelong dedication to the marine world. I personally think it's well deserved but I may be biased.

For me, this was more than just about a coral. It’s about love for the animal, friendships that we cultivate, and the passion that unites everyone in this hobby. It reminds us that the pursuit of beauty and discovery in reefing is endless, and that true enthusiasm never fades.
