“The Wolf That Trusted Humans — And Paid With Extinction”
The Warrah Wolf was the only native land mammal of the Falkland Islands — a fox-like wolf unlike any other on Earth. It welcomed sailors and settlers with open trust, padding right up to them without fear. But that innocence was its downfall. Hunted for its fur, poisoned, and even killed for sport, the Warrah disappeared forever by 1876.
Charles Darwin himself once wrote of this strange, isolated wolf, baffled by its existence — and warning how quickly it could vanish. He was right. The last Warrah died not because it was dangerous, but because it was too friendly to survive human greed.
???? A ghost of the Falklands, the Warrah Wolf reminds us that sometimes the kindest souls are the first we destroy.
