The Bali Green Slimer Staghorn Acropora is a great beginner coral. They are very hardy and fast growing. If you are just getting started with sps this is a perfect choice. Green slimer Acro come from Indo but all of ours are 100% aquacultured.
The Green Slimer gets it's name from the sticky slime it releases when it comes into contact with air. Acros may become exposed to the air in extreme low tide events. Corals have evolved this characteristic to protect themselves from from the hot sun and air by creating a layer that traps in moisture. Some coral mucus studied have been found to contain mycosporine-like amino acids that act as an UV protectant as well. Source: Nakajima & Tanaka (2014)
