---------------
The American White Pelican is primarily a fish eater.
Its usual prey species are small schooling fish, but it also eats some bottom feeders; within the preferred size range, it is non-selective, taking prey purely on the basis of availability.
It also takes salamanders and crayfish opportunistically.
--------------------
Pelican as water birds, pelicans use fish as their main food source.
If a small reptile or amphibian comes their way, they might eat that, too.
Pelicans use their bill pouch like a fishing net to scoop the fish into their bill.
They then tip their head forward to drain out the water.
--------------------
If you feed a pelican anything other than fish it will eventually become sick.
They can become listless, underweight and even aggressive. Never feed a pelican meat, chicken or bread.
--------------------
Pelicans are not capable of continuous flight by waving, but they can stay in the air for 24 hours, crossing hundreds of kilometers.
They are excellent hoists and can use thermals to climb to considerable heights.
A flight of 1000 m is common, and altitudes of 3,000 m have been recorded.

American white pelicans are found in Alberta during their mating season, which usually ranges from March or April until September or October.
They migrate south to the Pacific and the Gulf of Mexico Coasts, and tend to live in estuaries, lakes, and rivers.

There are more than half a dozen species of pelicans, but all of them have the famous throat pouch for which the birds are best known.
These large birds use their elastic pouches to catch fish

Pelican birds a large gregarious waterbird with a long bill, an extensible throat pouch for scooping up fish, and mainly white or gray plumage.
Pelicans are a genus of large water birds that make up the family Pelecanidae.
They are characterized by a long beak and a large throat pouch used for catching prey and draining water from the scooped-up contents before swallowing.
They have predominantly pale plumage, except for the brown and Peruvian pelicans.
---------------
Adult American White Pelicans are snowy white with black flight feathers visible only when the wings are spread.
A small patch of ornamental feathers on the chest can become yellow in spring.
The bill and legs are yellow-orange.
Immatures are mostly white as well, but the head, neck, and back are variably dusky.
------------------
Symbolic meanings we connect to pelicans include wisdom, safety, humility, charity, nurturing, generosity, and even direction.
As a spirit animal it brings us these traits when we are in need of them.
----------------
Pelicans are gregarious and nest colonially. Pairs are monogamous for a single season, but the pair bond extends only to the nesting area; mates are independent away from the nest.

Thank you in advance
May you have a marvelous day
