Wetland Breakfast Scene #shortsfeed #birds #shorts #nature
Today’s morning visit to Chandlai Lake turned into something truly mesmerizing. I witnessed an adult and a juvenile Swamphen feeding peacefully among the wetland plants. Both were busy pulling out tender roots and soft branches with surprising precision — a perfect example of how beautifully nature provides for every species.
The way the juvenile followed the adult, learning how to pick and eat the aquatic vegetation, showed the deep bond, learning, and survival instinct that exists in the wild. Moments like these remind us that nature already has enough resources, we just need to protect, understand, and conserve these ecosystems so every species continues to thrive.
About Swamphens
The species you saw is most likely the Grey-headed Swamphen (Porphyrio poliocephalus), common in Indian wetlands.
They are known for their bright purple-blue plumage, red bill, and long legs.
Swamphens mainly feed on wetland plant roots, shoots, tender leaves, and small aquatic organisms.
They play a key ecological role in maintaining wetland vegetation balance and supporting the health of marsh ecosystems.
IUCN Status
Grey-headed Swamphen: Least Concern (LC)
Meaning they are currently stable — but wetlands they depend on are rapidly disappearing.
