Hawksbill turtles have a really narrow, pointed beak—that’s what gives them their name—and it’s perfect for reaching into tight spaces in coral reefs to grab sponges and soft corals. What’s interesting is that while they eat, they often break apart the coral structure a bit, which releases tiny food particles into the water. That’s why you see all those small fish around their mouth—they’re waiting to grab whatever bits the turtle leaves behind. This feeding behavior actually supports reef biodiversity by helping other species get access to food they wouldn’t reach on their own.
