For 25 years, Alexandra Morton has been eagerly studying the wide range of complex sounds used by killer whales and white-sided dolphins to communicate.

In 1979, this scientist decided to settle with her family in the community of Echo Bay, a small marine paradise north of Vancouver Island and far removed from the hustle and bustle of urban life.

Each day, Morton takes her boat out over the waters of the Broughton Archipelago, listening for the unique sounds of killer whales and white-sided dolphins.

Today, Morton is leading a bold quest to keep this marine paradise intact. In recent years, she’s noted with alarm that the killer whales, unlike the dolphins, are no longer visiting the Broughton Archipelago.

Alexandra Morton’s love for the environment of Echo Bay leads us to discover a superb marine environment that continues to echo inside us well afterwards.

Through her decades-long quest to understand cetacean communication and social structure, we discover fascinating creatures with a highly complex language.
