The sexual dimorphism of amphibian hippos is almost inexistent except for the size for the adults.
As they seem to practice training jousts, we can suppose that they are young or subordinate males.
The hippopotamus has no predator except man who kills it for its meat and for the ivory of its teeth.
It is assumed that there are still 125,000 to 150,000 individuals, the species is classified as vulnerable by the IUCN. In 2002, for example, 5 tons of hippo teeth were exported from Uganda causing the death of 2000 of them. Moreover, the galloping demographic pressure of the human species drastically reduces the habitat of this animal as well as the water available to it.
