Sea anemones come in all shapes and sizes Some are tiny barely a few millimeters wide while others like the giant carpet anemone can grow up to six feet across They come in every color of the rainbow neon greens fiery reds electric blues But dont be fooled by their gentle appearance Their tentacles are lined with tiny stinging cells called nematocysts When prey or a curious predator touches them they fire a microscopic harpoon loaded with venom For small fish or plankton its game over But for clownfish its a different story Clownfish have a special slimy coating that makes them immune to the anemones venom Its the ultimate symbiotic relationship The clownfish gets a safe home and the anemone gets a loyal bodyguard who chases away pests Sea anemones are also masters of adaptation Most of them anchor themselves to rocks or coral swaying in the current But some can actually move Its rare but when they need a change of scenery or if their home gets crowded they can slowly glide along the seabed
