I saw my first amphibian of 2024 -- a Green Tree Frog (Hyla cinerea) -- at the Houston Arboretum & Nature Center, in Houston, TX, USA. To my surprise, it was brown. I didn't realize these Frogs could be any color but bright green, but, apparently, there's some evidence that the frogs have the ability to change colors based on environment and temperature. So I suppose that may be what's going on here, since the brown Frog did camouflage relatively well against the brown vegetation, and the temperatures have been relatively cool for Houston (but warm enough lately for the reptiles, amphibians, and insects to start perking up).
