Spotted Gars are carnivorous. They primarily feed on other fish, but their diet can also include crustaceans and insects. Their sharp teeth and elongated snout make them efficient predators.

Spotted Gars spawn in the spring when the water temperatures rise. Females can lay up to 20,000 eggs in vegetation, which hatch after about a week. The young Gars remain in shallow waters, protected by the vegetation until they are big enough to venture out.
