How TORTOISES & Other REPTILES Use the Rainbow!

Somewhere over the reptile rainbow are the answers to why these animals are so vividly colored! Reptiles and amphibians remain some of planet earth’s most colorful creatures and they use their color as an advantage. Whether it’s to blend in or to ward off predators, these primitive beings know just how to use it. Poison dart frogs represent amphibians and their defense mechanisms by being as flashy as possible to let a predator know, “you will pay for it if you mess with me”, while tortoises let their intricate markings and bold hues be the ways they can remain virtually hidden from sight within their habitats. Snakes like the northern pine snake display a beautiful white which allows them to blend in with the sand they naturally occur on and yet chameleons do not use color to camouflage at all! Instead, their color is in response to temperature and mood swings! It just keeps getting more interesting in this video as we take you on a ride to understand the reptile rainbow connection.
