The polar bear is a majestic Arctic predator, known for its distinctive white fur and immense size. These bears can live up to 25 years in the wild, with mothers raising their cubs for about two and a half years. Polar bears are incredibly intelligent and have adapted to their harsh environment with remarkable hunting skills. They primarily hunt seals, using a method called still-hunting, where they wait silently by seal-breathing holes in the ice to catch their prey. Their excellent sense of smell helps them detect seals nearly a mile away and under several feet of compacted snow. Polar bears are solitary creatures, and their survival depends heavily on sea ice, making climate change a significant threat to their existence.
