This is not an otter—it’s a seal.
Well, it’s Puijila and when it started hunting aquatic animals, it turned itself into a seal!
It had to spend so much time in the water, so over time, its legs evolved into flippers. Its tail became shorter, and Its body streamlined for swimming. It developed the ability to store more oxygen in its blood and muscles to stay underwater longer. And to survive in cold environments, it grew dense fur and developed a thick layer of blubber.
It took 10 million years for the Puijila to evolve into seal ancestors, and it took another 20 million years for the seals, sea lions, and walruses to appear.
