Also known as the masu salmon or yamame in Japan, this beautiful fish is a true freshwater gem of East Asia. Native to Japan, Korea, Russia, and Taiwan, it’s known for its vibrant pink stripes that appear during the spawning season — earning it the name “cherry salmon.”

While some migrate to the sea and return to spawn (like many Pacific salmon), others stay in freshwater their whole lives. These "landlocked" versions are called yamame and are popular in sport fishing for their beauty and fight ????????

???? Fun Fact: Unlike many Pacific salmon, some cherry salmon can survive spawning and return to breed again!
