The Arctic fox (Vulpes lagopus) is a small and resilient mammal native to the Arctic regions of North America, Eurasia, and Greenland. Recognized for its adaptation to extreme cold, the Arctic fox has a dense coat that changes color with the seasons, transitioning from brown or gray in summer to pure white in winter. This camouflage helps it blend into its snowy surroundings. Arctic foxes have relatively small bodies with a bushy tail and furry paws, which act as natural snowshoes. They are omnivorous, with a diet that includes small mammals, birds, fish, and plant matter. These foxes are known for their intelligence and ability to store food for lean times. They are well adapted to the harsh Arctic climate and can withstand incredibly cold temperatures. Due to their remote habitat, Arctic foxes are relatively less studied than other fox species, but they are a vital part of the Arctic ecosystem and its unique biodiversity.
