Pinnipeds, commonly known as seals, are a widely distributed and diverse clade of carnivorous, fin-footed, semiaquatic, mostly marine mammals. They comprise the extant families Odobenidae, Otariidae, and Phocidae.

They are aquatic mammal species that mostly spend their lives in cold regions, especially the poles.

These animals have a very unique shape, especially their fins which look like legs.
With their fins, pinnipeds can walk on land although their movements tend to be very slow when on land.
Like dogs that live on land, pinnipedia species also have whiskers. The function of these whiskers is to help them find and detect their prey.
3. Variety of Size
The shape of this unique animal is very diverse. The largest pinnipedia species is the southern sea elephant (Mirounga leonina).
Quoted by Animal Diversity, male southern elephants can reach a size of 6 meters tall and weigh 3.7 tons.
Meanwhile, the smallest is the Baikal seal (Pusa sibirica), which measures only 1.3 meters and weighs 130 kg.
